05/26/23: New Side Story Update!
Hey, y'all! It's time for another side story, this time exploring Grey's past with Sam and the events that led up to the present in the story's timeline. It was voted on by our $10 patrons, and I hope you enjoy it as a placeholder until the next major update (Mark Day 4) which is currently in development. As with our other side stories, you can access it by selecting Extras from the main menu!
As a warning, the content in this side story is extremely heavy. Please refer to the content warnings on our itch page and take whatever precautions necessary before playing. If themes of child abuse, sexual assault or suicide are something you cannot handle, do not play this side story.

It's strange, Moon River came out in 1961, but Sam died in the 20s or 30s. I wonder if this is purely for artistic reasons or if it has something to do with the whole time shiz buiz going on with Virgil and the others. Or, maybe I'm just stupid and Moon River was actually written long ago.
It could be another version of Sam from an alternate timeline if things were very different for him. Either that or his spirit/ghost in the afterlife.

but shit you didnt have pull out trauma cards on me shit. i was tearing up, looking at sam's and Charles's bit of story, i hated it so much(in a good way if you can say that????) i need more story on sam, i need story on charles GODDAMIT. i need to know. (Extra Story was a 10/10....if i can say that?)

I was so focused on how adorable young Grey is that I forgot about the heavy stuff that was going to be present later in the side story that when it came to that I was completely taken aback. Shit really hit hard, I feel bad for poor Charles and Sam Jr.
what do you mean? both Sam Sr. and Jr. are dead by the time Grey meets Virgil

his father is a monster, two of his "friends" straight up hate him, and he finds out his older brother is being molested, he decides there's no reason to live in a loveless world, he gives one last try by confessing his crush, but gets his heart broken, so he ends it
Wow...*lights a cigarette when i dont even smoke* i havent felt this much emotional turmoil in a vn since the early days of black gate...good freaking job dood. Im not sure how to properly articulate sam jr but rest in piss Sam Sr and I want to give Charles all the hugs and compassion.
Also uh how do racial slurs work in this world? Obviously the "gamer" word exists somehow but with how animal people in different continents operate I'm confused. I kinda thought how "lizard" was said might have been a stand in but that didn't work when I re read "the path" and "the help" are mammalian. Feel free to tell me I'm reading too far into it and it's just used to reflect our world with theirs.
from what i understand there seems to be a hierarchy of species that exists as a separate categorical from race and nationality, from what we saw until now, ungulates are at the bottom, aquatic animals are low, canines and birds are high, and marsupials are just above mustelids, the rest of hierarchy hasn't been elaborated on

Well, that went pretty dark in "The Path". The worldbuilding in this VN is so great, those side stories give an extra layer to the entire image. I wonder how this story will continue on Hiro's route.
